Lt. Richard “Rick” O'Conner (played by Danny Dorosh) is a young American astronaut, who honed his wings as a carrier fighter pilot in the United States Navy. Richard pilots Earth's first manned faster-than-light interstellar expedition to the Alpha Centauri star system, under the command of Lt. Cmdr. Monroe Bellwood (Shaker Paleja). Bellwood hand-picked Richard for the mission based upon his superb piloting skills. While training for the mission, Richard became close friends with his Canadian shipmate, Denise (Tara Pratt), with whom he shares a playful banter. Over four light-years from Earth, the crew of the Star Shuttle Eagle III discovers an Earth-like paradise planet of rivers, waterfalls, and rainforests...and to their shock, human beings. |

While searching a river basin for bio-samples, it is Richard who first encounters Asian-appearing members of the Kyontawa tribe: the beautiful female warrior, Sheenyana (Yvette Lu) and her protégé cousin, Princess Xionko (Beverly Wu). Sheenyana introduces herself by rescuing O'Conner from a deadly tree snake. He is instantly fascinated by her. She is witty, intelligent and learns English at an ingenious rate of speed. Sheenyana's people and her immediate family—the tribe's royal family: Xionko, the chief, Shogoto (Taka Hiro) and queen, Shogami (Yuki Morita). Commander Bellwood is furious when Richard brings Sheenyana to their high-tech camp, and he learns of the lieutenant's visit to the Kyontawa village—acts he believes to be reckless.
