Sheenyana is the lead character of a series of stories, beginning with Food for the Gods—the title of the 2007 short film co-written and directed by H. Scott Hughes, and based on the short story by author Patricia C. Hughes. Sheenyana’s name, translated from her native language, means "Sees Far"—a name attributed to her psychic abilities.
Sheenyana (played by Canadian actress Yvette Lu) is a human woman of Asian descent, born in the 2030's (standard Earth calendar) on a planet in the Alpha Centauri star system. She is a member of the Kyontawa tribe, a people characterized by their ethno-Asian origins, which includes a language with similarities to Asian languages on Earth, Japanese in particular, and a pre-Columbian level of technology. However, Sheenyana's people are descended from what may have been the most advanced civilization in human history—one which, centered on the island now known as Japan, established a deep space colony on an alien world over 20,000 years ago. By the year 2057, Sheenyana's people are rediscovered by a NASA expedition and Sheenyana becomes the first of her people to make contact, by saving the life of American astronaut, Lt. Richard O'Conner (Danny Dorosh). Sheenyana and Richard soon fall in love—and their forbidden romance acts the catalyst to an intercultural clash which could rip them apart.
Sheenyana recognizes Richard’s goodness, and indeed, Richard begins to question his crew’s mission to this planet. However, Sheenyana’s psychic visions foretell others coming from Earth and threatening the balance of her world—forcing her to consider committing the unthinkable upon the only man she has ever loved. A good man. An innocent man.
Sheenyana is the niece of the Kyontawa ruler, Shogoto (Taka Hiro) and queen, Shogami (Yuki Morita), and first cousin to the crown princess, Xionko (Beverly Wu). A skilled warrior, strategist, and diplomat (as well as possessing an incredible clairvoyance), Sheenyana is Shogoto’s most trusted military and political advisor, and sensei to her younger cousin, Xionko—with whom she is charged with training and grooming for the princess’s future role as Queen-Ruler. Until the birth of any further siblings after Xionko, or children given birth to by Xionko, Sheenyana currently remains second in line to the Kyontawa Throne, after Xionko. Sheenyana’s father was Shogoto’s brother. Her mother, Shogami’s sister, was a Kyontawa priestess, who (like Sheenyana) possessed incredible and unique psychic abilities. (CONTINUED…) |
